Nahum: Extraordinary Justice

October 11, 2020 Preacher: Josh King Series: Minor Prophets with a Major Message

Topic: Video Sermon, Sunday Sermon, Minor Prophet Passage: Nahum 1:7–8

If you have been to church much, you most likely have read or heard of the story of Jonah. Jonah was sent by God to Nineveh, with a message of forgiveness and repentance. God gave them a second chance. Lesser known is Nahum’s message to Nineveh. In this message, God does not give them another chance. God’s judgment is cast against Nineveh. It is easy to overlook the wrathful side of God, and only focus on his mercy, but if we do this we do not completely understand God. When we understand both God’s anger and love: We understand the moral framework in the universe that gives us purpose. We understand why Jesus had to die on the cross to forgive our sins. We understand how to love our neighbors.

Sermon Series: In this sermon series, we will spend several weeks looking at some of the minor prophets. These books are called “minor” because they are shorter, not because they are less important. These scriptures provide us with an opportunity to learn about God’s heart and message for us today.
