Support for Parents

Dear Parents,

Did you know that the volunteers in Chapel Kids programming meet to pray at 9 AM every Sunday morning?  We pray for the children and families of Chapel, both those who have returned to the church building and those who have not yet returned.  Our collective heart prays that our children are having authentic experiences with God through His Word that leads them to love Him and want to serve Him.  We also pray for our leaders and volunteers that God would sustain, support, and bless them in their ministry.  If you are able, we invite you to pray for Chapel Kids on Sunday mornings, too. Consider praying for the children and their families as well as our volunteers and leaders.  We also would love to pray for your families.  Please let us know how we can be praying for your family specifically.

Revealing That the Bible Isn't Just a Fairy Tale

Out of our prayer session this past Sunday, a prayer came from the heart of one of our leaders.  One of our 3rd-5th grade teachers prayed that the children would not see the Bible as a collection of fairy tales or made-up stories.  His prayer was that they would not confuse God's Word with what they see in picture books but accept the Bible as God's unchangeable truth!  In a week where the children will learn about a talking donkey, you can see how this could be confusing for our children, and we need to be praying for their acceptance that God's Word is true and can be trusted.

Parenting Tip

Tagging on with that prayer, another teacher in the K-2nd class, shared this tip she learned from teaching children at Bible Study Fellowship.  When talking about our introducing a Bible story, she shared we should always use the adjective "true" to describe the story.

Today, in our true Bible story...

Also, be cautious about referring to the people in the Bible as "characters" and use a word like "people/person" which underscores that the Bible is about real people.  Simple word choice can go a long way in helping our children differentiate between the Truth of God's Word and fairy-tale fiction.

This Week's Bible Lesson

Teach your kids that God protects His people. His promises are sure. Balaam could not curse God’s people. God had blessed the Israelites, so Balaam blessed them too. Fourteen hundred years after Balaam announced God’s promise, Jesus was born. God sent Jesus to bless the whole world by rescuing people from sin.

Check this session’s Activity Page (K-2nd)  (3rd-5th) and Big Picture Card to interact with the Bible content this week.
