Dear Parents,
Well, we had planned on opening a third classroom next Sunday for our K-5 in-person programming but found that we needed to do it this Sunday instead.  I wanted to send a huge shout-out to our Chapel Kids Volunteers for their flexibility and willingness to serve so we could make this quick change happen and accommodate several more children who are returning this week!  We encourage families who have not yet returned to Chapel to view the online lesson (linked at the end of the email).

Miss Chapel Kids Registration for Sunday morning? Email jenny@chapelcares.com to inquire if there is space available.  The registration form closes on Wednesday nights so that we can prepare the classrooms and determine room capacity.  However, if you missed the sign-up, please send in an email, and we will see what we can do!

New Unit: Conquering the Land

The children are moving into the Book of Joshua and over the next three weeks will be learning about how God goes ahead of us and prepares a way for us. The key verse that they will focus on during this unit is Deuteronomy 31:8.  Our prayer is that the children will remember this beautiful promise found in Scripture that can encourage them throughout their lives.

Each unit also features a "Big Picture Question and Answer" that ties the lessons in that uniit together.  The question and answer they'll be tackling is,

What Does It Mean to Glorify God?
We can glorify God by loving Him and obeying Him.

Parenting Tip: Explaining "Glorify" to Kids

Glorify. It's not a word that kids would likely use in secular conversations, so I wouldn’t assume that all kids will understand what the Big Picture Question is asking. With children, it can be best to keep the explanation simple, in words they can understand and relate to. Our classroom teachers are going to explain that glorify means showing how great or awesome someone is.  So our question, “How do we glorify God?”  is like asking, “How do I show how awesome and great God is?”

A visual example of what it means to glorify someone might be to explain that when actors or singers get on stage, a spotlight is shown on them.  This is done so that others can see them at work on the stage. In a similar way, we should live our lives by loving and following God so that our lives are like the spotlight that lets others see Him.

Check this session’s Activity Page (K-3rd)  (4th-5th) and Big Picture Card to interact with the Bible content this week.

FAMILY STARTING POINTS

As you go through this week, emphasize with your kids that God was still at work with His people. God went ahead of Joshua and the Israelites into the promised land. He showed His power to them so they would trust in Him. When Jesus came to earth, He showed His power so people would trust in Him and be saved from sin. The cross is our reminder of what Jesus has done for us: a miraculous saving we could never do for ourselves.
